Sir Ken Robinson speaks during the Dalai Lama Center’s Educating the Heart Series. He discusses the importance of an education that educates not just the mind, but also the heart.
Having worked in education recently as a sculpture teacher and a Qigong teacher, I have developed a passion for the goal of education and the role the teacher plays in this endeavour. I wrote about Spirituality in Education and I felt this talk by Robinson parallels the ideas of Tariq Ramadan in discussing the importance of the heart and how it too can be educated along with the mind. He also warns about the division we make based on an assumption of the importance of the mind over the heart. This can lead to suppression and even medication in a misguided attempt to enforce conformity to a narrow range of abilities rather than celebrate the differences and varying capabilities of each individual student based on their passions and thoughts.
Sir Ken Robinson is famous for his two Ted talks about education and now gives lectures on education reform.
